I’d heard about the fabulous Langkawi cable cars taking visitors all the way to the top of the mountains for view over Langkawi and Thailand, and the amazing suspension bridge long before we visited the island, and it was a must-see on our list.
What I didn’t realise was that Panorama Langkawi is a destination in itself, with as many activities down below as there are up on the mountain.

If your kids are fans of extra dimensional films and 3D museums, like Emmie is, then they are in for a treat. And if you keep one or two of these fab rides on hold for when you return from the top of the mountain, you have an excellent bargaining tool while you enjoy the views and the amazing suspension bridge.
The ancient mountains here are more than 550 million years old and the SkyRex interactive 3D experience ties in with this theme as you board a jeep for a bouncing, rocking, ride through the jungle escaping dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes.

The 6D cinemotion and SkyDome 360 degree rollercoaster rides are incredible and I am so amazed at how this technology can trick your brain and make you feel like you are actually soaring, ascending, curving and roaring down the track – it’s so realistic and the Malaysian crowds are so much fun, screaming and cheering as you race along the tracks. Em wanted to take the rides over and over again, and so did I!

One of the biggest 3D museums is also here – its full of 3D paintings where you can photograph yourself like you are really in the artwork. Just stand on the suggested spot with your camera ready to take your photos while your kids surf, hang off bridges or jump along ladders trying to not fall into the abyss below.

Again Emily was so excited running around to each painting, figuring out exactly how to stand/sit/postion herself for the photo and getting me to take the shot. It’s a fun family activity as groups can fit into each pic and act out a scene. Lots of fun!
Boarding the glass bottom SkyCab
After our fill of rides we jumped onto a glass bottom SkyCab cable car, soaring over the green jungle and limestone cliffs as we made our way up to the first viewing platform and then to the second.

It’s a spectacular 360 degree views of the island – it was a bit hazy and apparently the best time to visit is just after rain when the air is clearer, but up here you are higher than some clouds so expect a little mistiness.
There’s a cafe and shop at the top – we bought a love lock to clip onto the bridge, joining hundreds of others who have added a love memory to the top of the mountain.

Next up was a short trip down to the SkyBridge on the SkyGlide funicular that spares you the effort of walking down – although the walk is fine, we walked back up after our time on the bridge.
The Sky Bridge is a beautiful structure and a little eerie – 125 metres of curved bridge suspended between two mountains by only one pylon! It’s very quiet and serene and has lovely views over to Thailand, and it’s just amazing to see the size of the bridge and the engineering expertise that has made it the world’s most spectacular pedestrian bridge.

When you return to the bottom you can grab a meal at the food court (free wifi so you can post your selfies!), cruise the local artisan galleries or head over to the SkyAdventure Park for more rides and fun.
It’s a great morning, afternoon or full day family adventure that we loved. There is so much for kids to enjoy and as we all know, when the kids are happy everyone is happy!
