About MIMARU Hotels

MIMARU Hotels are apartment hotels – they’re amazing rooms in a hotel style accommodation that are self-contained.  So while there’s no room service or dining room, it’s just not needed as the rooms have a fully equipped kitchenette, amazing Japanese restaurants outside and easy access to Japan’s awesome 7-11, Lawsons and other convenience stores that have such a great variety of food.

Books, games and origami for the kids in the lobby

MIMARU Hotels are super family friendly, with beautiful suites with bunks for kids, living areas and large bathrooms with baths. The beds are super comfy too, of course and the space is really generous. Cleaning is done every other day, and you can get fresh towels as required.

You can find MIMARU Apartment Hotels in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. There are seven MIMARU Hotels in Tokyo, and we stayed at the Ginza East location.

MIMARU Hotel Ginza East – where we stayed

We loved this area and the location of our MIMARU Hotel. It is walking distance from many train stations including Ginza East and Hatchobori, so getting there and getting around is super easy . The Ginza area itself is full of galleries, restaurants and shopping plus the amazing Itoya stationary store. The main street is wide and lined with high end shops, and on the weekends it is closed to traffic and chairs and tables are set up all along the road. It’s so amazing to see a busy road closed off and people wandering all around.

For families there is a small park about a minute from the hotel, and the lobby has games and books for kids to borrow, and squares of coloured paper for origami.

Our room at MIMARU Ginza East

MIMARU has a variety of rooms including Japanese style tatami rooms, doubles, connecting rooms and loft style rooms. We stayed the family room which sleeps four with a double bed and bunks, but you can add a cot and have five  (or up to six) in the room – perfect for larger families who sometimes find it difficult to find larger rooms.

The bunks are fabulous and all the beds are super comfy

The family room has bunks! And they’re fancy bunks with lots of room, a night light and a charging station. Emmie and her friend Lara loved them so much – it was probably Emmie’s favourite room ever on our travels.

The room was really large too – as well as the double bed and bunks it had a big living areas with a table and chairs, a kitchenette and fridge and a large wardrobe.

The toilet and bathroom are separate and the bath/shower room is also separate from the dressing room with sink and mirror, and a small step for kids to use so they can reach the sink. The bath is big and deep and the toiletries are the best! I wish I could have bought the conditioner, my hair has never felt – or looked – so good. It was divine to have a bath each night after walking so much every day in Tokyo, then eat our dinner and settle in for the evening.

In-room technology

Each room in the MIMARU hotel has a complimentary mobile phone that guests can take with them when they’re exploring the city which is so convenient and helpful. You can also use it for complimentary external phone calls.

There’s also a huge wall projector in the room that you can tap into and use to show movies or just as a light. It’s so cool to have movie night on the big screen.

The staff

The staff at the APARTMENT HOTEL MIMARU Ginza East are really lovely and kind, and were a huge help as I was trying to activate my SIM card – making phone-calls and sorting out problems for me. The front desk is manned until 10pm each evening and from 6am in the morning, and a security guard is available throughout the night if needed.

Secure swipe cards give you access to the lift and swipe you into the hotel after hours.

Food nearby APARTMENT HOTEL MIMARU Ginza East

There is a huge 711 about two minutes from the hotel and it has everything you could ever need from edamame and sushi meals to salads, fruit, ice-creams and wine…I even tried the 711 brand sauvignon blanc (for research purposes) and it was fine! And so cheap! After a big day out exploring you can just stop in on the way home and get everything you need for dinner.
