Where to stay when you arrive in Sri Lanka: Jetwing Blue Negombo

Where to stay when you arrive in Sri Lanka: Jetwing Blue Negombo

The best place to stay when you arrive in Colombo is Negombo, a seaside town only 20 minutes from Colombo airport with lots of restaurants, street vendors with short eats (so so delicious) and a myriad of hotels and guesthouses to suit any budget. If you’re wondering where to stay when you fly into Sri Lanka, Negombo is the place.  Check out Negombo hotel prices here.

When starting or finishing a trip though I always like to stay a little bit fancy  – service, a good pool and clean, spacious rooms are a must at the beginning and the end of every family holiday, right? – and I reckon Jetwing Blue Negombo is the place to stay when you arrive or are (sadly) leaving Sri Lanka.

Jetwing Blue is a gorgeous resort right on the beach, with a big fabulous sparkling pool, the biggest  most comfortable family rooms we’ve ever seen – if you can secure a family room or your stay you will never want to leave – delicious food and attentive service. And it’s right on the main street with easy access to the local strip – restaurants, street food, souvenirs and local life.  Check out this three week Sri Lanka itinerary to help you plan your stay, and read all about train travel in Sri Lanka with kids here and spotting wild elephants here.

What we loved

The amazing pool:

The pool is huge and perfect for cooling off while you adjust to the Sri Lankan heat. It has chairs in the shallow end  – the perfect depth for toddlers – so you can sit with your legs in the water while you watch the kids or relax with a G&T. Sun lounges and green grass surround teh pool, and the staff provide pool towels and drinks and meal service.

The family room:

All the rooms here at Jetwing are oversized with massive bathrooms and baths, and with views across the grounds – over coconut trees to the beach  – super comfy beds and pillows and balconies to sit and watch the sun set over the ocean. Highly highly rated by us and our guests, these rooms are some of the best we’ve experienced in Sri Lanka. The resort also provides baby cribs and bedding for smaller family members. Family rooms include a separate living area with lounge and dining table and double width balconies.

One of the awesome family rooms at Jetwing Blue Negombo!

Sustainability:

You won’t find plastic bottled water here at Jetwing but water provided in reusable glass bottles. Jetwing’s commitment to the environment and sustainability sits across all its operations and its hotels and resorts across Sri Lanka. This includes initiatives like reusing water on its gardens, reinvigorating wetlands for native animals and using its own produce in its restaurants. Protecting its homeland and the world round us is a Jetwing priority and we love that even simple gestures like not using bottled water can make a huge impact on the environment and the world.

Staff:

We find Sri Lankans to be the most super friendly and kind people and you’ll find that too, especially if your traveling with little ones. Everyone here is so caring and of course that really makes a stay a huge success.

Food:
Breakfast is incredible with a huge variety of traditional and western dishes, and the dinner buffet is absolutely amazing. Make sure to try the curries and hoppers and don’t miss the huge coolroom filled with deserts!

This is an egg hopper – so amazingly YUM! Make sure to try them when you are in Sri Lanka!

We love Jetwing Blue Negombo so much we booked our first night with our family tour here at Jetwing Blue and everyone raved about how wonderful it was. I hope you get to visit Sri Lanka and when you do, make sure to stay here on arrival or as your last night before you leave for home or your next destination.

Wow! The size of the rooms is incredible! And the pool is gorgeous as well. Sri Lanka looks like an amazing and very family friendly destination. And I love how you begin and end a trip with something a little bit fancy. Makes perfect sense to me! :)
