ZIPLINE & TEMPLES AT ANGKOR, CAMBODIA

Ziplining at Angkor is so much fun! Did you know that you can zipline and canopy walk while you are visiting the temples at Angkor? It’s perfect for families visiting Angkor Park as you can break up temple visits with a bit of fun, burn up some energy and do something very cool like flying through the air at a UNESCO world heritage site. Just a few minutes down a dirt track from Angkor Thom – and the lesser known and beautiful Tanei temple –  is the brilliant Angkor Zipline (formerly known as Flight of the Gibbon)

It’s a awesome little outfit where small groups climb up into the canopy and zipline from tree to tree over the forest below.

There are also canopy walks on wooden slats suspended above the ground to test your balance and the chance to spot wild animals – if you’re lucky maybe even the endangered pileated gibbons that are being re-introduced to the Angkor forest.

 

For us it was the perfect way to break up a day of sight-seeing out at Angkor and it was an excellent bribe on our first day for Emmie. She knew that at lunchtime she would be ziplining so was way more patient than usual with such a great treat to look forward to. She was happy exploring Angkor Thom and Ta Phrom for the first few hours of the morning, but having this bribe up my sleeve certainly helped.

When we arrived we were fitted our with our safety harnesses and our two guides Tola and Thaven, called Sky Rangers, drove us out to the starting point.

We were given a safety briefing and climbed up to our first platform and off we went- zooming along three single ziplines and one double, one abseil and four canopy walks. That was enough for me, but Emmie wrangled herself onto the next tour and went around again!

 

I always find ziplining terrifying and if it weren’t for Emmie I would not be doing it. The staff here though are really serious about safety and follow it strictly and while they are fun leaders, they never took their eyes off their customers or procedures so I felt safe the whole time. And most importantly, I felt that Emmie was safe as I was watching her fly off from station to station.

You can book Angkor Zipline as a day trip out from Siem Reap – transport is included but you will need to buy your park pass or have one that you’re happy to use. Or you can do what we did and use it to break up a day of sight seeing around Angkor.

Either way it’s a fabulous treat for the kids and lots of fun for adults too – we loved it.
