Best family hotels in Melaka: where to stay in Melaka with kids

There are many family friendly hotels in Melaka to choose from when holidaying in Malaysia with kids, and I’ve listed my favourites in this post – noting those with rooms for families of five!  Melaka is a fabulous city to visit for one to three days or more – you can come as a day trip from Kuala Lumpur, or spend a few days exploring the city. Melaka is rich in history, cuisine and kindness and you’ll find everything here from traditional kampungs, river cruises, night markets and food, churches, fun family activities and the best coconut shakes in Asia (in my humble opinion!).

You can read all about our favourite things to do in Melaka and check out the below family friendly hotels in Melaka.

Make sure to ride a special Melaka trishaw when you’re in town

The most important things for me when choosing a hotel in Melaka is location and pool. Most of the things to see in Melaka are very closely located, so it makes sense to be in walking distance to the centre or at least crazy-trishaw distance away. As the weather is hot and steamy a hotel pool is also important although with good aircon you can avoid this, and there is a public pool in Melaka which you can use instead.

Prices are generally good here – you can get really nice hotels at an affordable rate, so you can splash out.

Hotels with best location and pools.

Hatten Hotel Melaka

We loved our stay at the Hatten Hotel Melaka. We stayed for three days and really enjoyed having that little bit of luxury with comfy beds,  fluffy white pillows and a huge rooftop swimming pool with a shallow area for kids (and bar!).  Our room was huge, it was a short walk into town,  we were really close to shopping malls and if we didn’t want to walk home we could jump into a trishaw for a few dollars. Check prices and availability here.

Novotel Melaka

Just a little further along from the Hatten Hotel, the Novotel Melaka is another affordable four star hotel with beautiful rooms and a fab swimming pool – with a separate kids pool, small slide into the water and childrens’ play are

The Ibis Melaka

The Ibis Melaka is in a great location, just a short walk to the centre of town and it has a fab swimming pool and play area for kids. They also have a family suite that sleeps five – yes that magic five!

The Majestic Melacca Hotel

We haven’t stayed at the Majestic Melaka but we have stayed at the Majestic in KL and it is a beautiful experience. While prices are a little higher, around $160 AUD per night, the Majestic Melaka is worth every penny. It’s a beautiful collision of traditional and modern, and the pool, while small, is sufficent for cooling off after a day exploring

Moty Hotel

The Moty Hotel is affordable, has an indoor swimming pool, good clean rooms and an excellent breakfast. It’s a short walk from the centre of town and all the things to do in Melaka.

Heeren Straits Hotel

The Heeren Straits Hotel is a beautifully restored Peranakan townhouse. It’s in a fabulous location and rooms are clean and tidy, and they can fit two adults and three kids to a room (two double beds and an extra) plus they have a villa that sleeps eight. There’s an onsite restaurant but you’re so close to the centre you can wander and eat at the amazing Mekala restaurants. Check prices and availability here.
