Where to stay in Kauai with kids – Aston Islander on the Beach: REVIEW

Where to stay in Kauai with kids – Aston Islander on the Beach: REVIEW

The Aston Islander on the Beach ticked all the boxes for us on our Kauai family holiday – it’s a family friendly Kauai hotel on the Coconut Coast, it’s right on the beach and has a lovely swimming pool, fabulous rooms,  beautiful grounds and it’s possibly in the most central location on the island to explore the best of Kauai.

We stayed here for two nights and wished we’d stayed longer. It was just so nice. Here’s why we loved it.

Beautiful hotel grounds

The hotel is plantation style on beautiful palm and frangipani filled grounds. There’s lots of space and greenery, it’s right on the beach so you can hear the waves and jump in the water and there’s a walking track along the shore. The hotel is just so calm in its design and with the beach and ocean on one side and the mountains on the other you really do feel surrounded by nature.

Fab rooms

The rooms are bright and spacious, the beds are comfy and there is a really calm holiday vibe. Ours overlooked the pool and beach and the balcony was roomy and comfortable.

Rooms have TV and DVD player and you can hire DVDs from a machine at reception that has all the latest movies.

Swimming pool and beach

The swimming pool may be a little smaller than other resorts but the size is just fine when you have the beach only metres away. The pool is surrounded by sun loungers and there’s pool bar and live music.

We loved our afternoons by the pool here.

Condo-style amenities

The Aston Islander is okay with you having your own wine and rooms have fridges and microwaves.

There are guest BBQs by the pool so you can buy your own meat and have a BBQ for lunch or dinner. This is such a great idea and adds to the holiday vibe here.

Location – Coconut Coast

Before we arrived in Kauai I thought we had to stay south and then north to be able to access the island. I didn’t realise that these sides of the island were actually quite close, and Kapaa, where the Aston Islander on the Beach is located, is right in the middle.

Kapaa is a beautiful little town, the Coconut Coast is lovely and the beaches are safe with soft waves. You could base yourself here and explore the entire island. It was close to the Kauai Back Country Adventures where we did our awesome tubing ride down the sugar cane canals too.

Close to good coffee and food

Great coffee is literally just next door in the little market village next to the hotel, and there are awesome restaurants and food trucks around Kapaa. If you want to buy your own food there are supermarkets and you could possibly pick up some bargains from Ross for Less too!

Environmentally friendly

Aqua-Aston Hospitality, which runs Islander, is a major advocate for sustainability. The hotel is straw-free and provides reef-safe sunscreen, and is moving towards being even more environmentally friendly which we LOVE

We would love to stay here again – and if we return to Kauai we will. For more information and prices click here.
